We had a very interesting turn around day in San
Francisco.
I told you about the Coast Guard inspection. Well, for
who
knows what reason (maybe too many non-USA citizens
aboard)
the immigration process took much longer than planned.
Then the Coast Guard had to come on and do their
inspection.
There were around 30 in transit passengers and we were
told
if we left the ship we could not return until 1:00 PM
when the
Coast Guard was supposed to be through. When we returned
around 1:30 we passed a long line and when we got to the
front
had to delicately make our way through to reboard the
ship.
Fortunately, the people near the front of the line understood
Fortunately, the people near the front of the line understood
what “passenger in transit” meant and kindly let us
through
without complaining about us jumping the line. From where
we were sent, we think we boarded on the crew deck.
We went to the Horizon Court (buffet) and found 5 people
there waiting to get food. We finally got some French fries
from the grill and we sat there looking at the line
outside
and being glad we were where we were. It was like being
on a ghost ship. Weird.
Finally about 3:15 the Coast Guard cleared the ship and
passengers could start boarding. I know there were some
angry people but I haven’t heard a lot of complaints. It
was
quite warm outside and people were waiting for hours.
I'm glad your "turn around day" ended up with a phone call to me! :) I know you & Foster are excited about returning to Hawaii after 20 yrs.! Always great to hear from you.
