In 2002 we left Ft. Lauderdale, went thru the Panama
Canal and
down the west coast of SA and up the east coast. We are
going the
opposite direction this time, so my old journal entries
are in reverse
order to current trip. I say this to clarify my Lima
entry.
We had a city tour of Lima. Although we still saw some
poor areas,
after visiting the main square & a large cathedral
& a monastery, we
went to the more affluent suburbs San Cristobel and
Miraflores. We
drove along the coast our return to the ship & it was
a lovely
drive. Again, we are still in a desery-3 inches of rain a
year & it is quite
different. However, at some points, the Andes are maybe
30 miles
away. Because of this close proximity to the mountains,
the cold
from the mts. Meeting the humidity of the ocean
cause a lot of fog
